July 4th Weekend

2008-07-03
Tons of pictures from a great long weekend. We went out and day hiked Mt Blue and Mt Moosilakue, then hit up a camp site
The following days run wasn't so fun, but by the second day I was almost fully recovered and had a great ride around Mt Sunapee. Then I did the same ride in reverse the following day.
One hell of a bike weekend, Checkout the workout log.

Peter Cahalane turns 27

Standard Birthday affair. Pictures posted.

Summerfest 2008

2008-06-28
One hell of a good time. Unfortunately the race didn't turn out the way I had hoped.
I was running with the lead guys through 3 miles and just didn't go with them the last half mile.
3.5 mile dirt road race. Unofficial mile splits: 5:19, 5:20, 5:10.

Dave and I got to Holyoke on time, but were shooting the shit with Greg until almost race time. My warm-up was very brief at best (just under a mile) and did not include a single stride.
Two weeks prior I felt great running a total of 5 miles @ 5:30 pace through thick woods, so I had planned on at least 5:15's or 5:10's.

A classic quote can best convey how my legs felt --> "like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag".

2008 Granby Charter Day Duathlon

2008-06-15
2.5 mile run, 16 mile bike, 2.5 mile run. Unofficially 13:50, 48:22 (Bike + T1 + T2), 13:52
Two in a row (almost). After loosing 6 minutes by going off course I managed to claw my way up to 5th overall.

(Google) chat with me

2008-06-11
Google labs is the pwnage. If you don't check out their stuff periodically I suggest you start doing so.

Back in 2004 they came out with a web based chat client gChat.
Two years later they added a multi-IM chat compatibility and a standalone client called Google Talk.
This February they came out an update to Google Talk called Chatback. Chatback allows a Google Talk (or gChat) account owner to chat with people who don't have one. They are allowing these "chatback badges" to be put on websites so that account owners can be contacted and communicated to easily.

I put up my Chatback badge on the left hand navigation bar. Check it out!

Lost my camera

2008-05-31
I seemed to have misplaced my camera. I'm sorry but there wont be too many picture updates untill I either find it or get a suitable replacement.

Be on the lookout for a Canon digital Elph SD400. It's from 03' or 04 and has a few dozen of my pictures on it. Last seen in North Easton MA on 2008-05-31.

Get out and ride!!

2008-05-29
Peter Cahalane's new "official" bike commute is in. Its much nicer and safer than through Boston (sorry DH). In total its just under 30 miles from Norwood to Wilmington. The first 7 or 8 are really nice, open, well paved roads. The next 10 through Newton, Waltham, and Belmont are much more condensed, full of pot holes, and stop lights. From there I get off of route 60 in Arlington and onto route 3/3A heading north into Winchester. By the time I hit route 38 in Woburn the hay's in the barn.

Today's ride stats:
Total Distance: 29.5 miles
Total Time: 102 minutes
Max Speed: 31.4 mph
Average Speed: 17.0 mph
Average HR: 137
Calories burned: ~1000

A little lost on the bike to work this morning.

2008-05-28
Riding through Boston ain't that great, but the alternative is sitting in rush hour traffic on 93 or 95. The way I see it is I'm getting a decent workout and now I get to mock all the suckers who drive to work. The 29 mile trip to work this morning took about 105 minutes. If I get the route down perfect and time all the lights right I'm sure I can do it in under 90 minutes.

Lions Spring Sprint Triathlon

2008 Wrentham Duathlon

2008-04-20
3 mile run, 11 mile bike, 2 mile run. Unoficially 16:45, 29:50 (bike + T1), 10:45.
Recovered from PRK for 3 weeks, had 1 decent week of training, then jumped in the Wrentham Duathlon
General fitness was high enough for 4th overall, and some solid performances.

NEICAAA @ BU

2008-02-29
I spent several hours this weekend at BU watching a great All New England track meet. Notable mentions include cathcing up with my highschool coach, getting yelled at by Crofty, Seeing Ross two days in a row, and Richardson making an appearance. Some of the top performances included:
  • Arman Dixon scoring 30 of Sacred Hearts 50 points by himself and breaking a 20+ year old record in the 200 (20.66).

  • Tufts women winning the DMR in 11:43.47.

  • Meg Brouseeau running a PR mile in 4:56.02.

  • Marisa Ryan setting a meet record in the 3k @ 9:15.63.
